 Saurashtra Rachnatmak Samitti is one of the oldest khadi institutions. It is established in May 1948. Spinning is the main and basic activity for producing any cloths. The spinning was started with the basic Box Spinning Wheel called as “Charkha” or “Peti Charkha”. Initia  l this was introduced from the town Yarvada so it became famous as “Yarvada Chakra” Today this spinning wheel had grown up to the latest “E-Charkha” which produces the electricity to charge mobile phone, play a radio, or lighten a lamp or a small tube sufficient for a spinning room.
                        
Saurashtra Rachnatmak Samiti, Rajkot has a very huge and wide network of spinning in Saurashtra area of Gujarat state in India. More than 500 families earn their bred and butter out of this spinning activity.
Surendranagar district is the main hub for cotton production in Saurashtra and Gujarat. Here in 10 different blocks (Talukas) wiz. Wadhwan, Muli, Limbdi, Sayla, Chotila, Halvad, Dhrangdhra, Lakhtar, Chuda, Dasada. Around 450 to 500 spinners in around 20-22 villages are active with spinning activity with New Model Charkha i.e. Amber Charkha.
Under this decentralized spinning network huge quantity of different types of cotton hanks are being spun everyday for suiting, shirting, mats, handkerchief, towels etc
